Using a Virtual Environment
To simplify the hardware requirements, you might find it useful to set up your evaluation environment using either Microsoft Virtual PC or VMware Workstation. To set up a virtual environment, you need a computer with enough CPU, RAM, and available disk space to run three virtual machines simultaneously. IBM Security recommends the following minimum configuration:
-
CPU: at least 1.70 GHz
-
RAM: at least 8 GB
-
Available disk space: 15 GB
The virtual environment should also be configured to run as an isolated evaluation environment using Local/Host-only or Shared/NAT networking.
In addition, because the virtual environment runs as an isolated network, each virtual machine should be manually assigned its own static TCP/IP address and host name.
